today in history

  • first off let me tell you that Mrs. Evers is hands down my favorite teacher!

In class today we discussed imperialism and how it changed the world

Imperialism is the explanding of the control and power of countries and at the time there were alot of power hungry countries. Imperialism is a branch of colonialism in which the controlled areas are formally declared as colonies. It is also used to refer to situatons where the mode of control is less formal; for instance where the dominant's influence or control in the subordinated areas is econmoics, not involving overt terriotorial conquest. Imperialism is aslo the attitude of superiorty and dominance over foreign people.

After our notes we played a review game for our unit 4 exam that we are taking next wednesday. It was boys verses girls and the boys beat us by two points. :)

a reader response: EDGAR ALLEN POE

Summary:

The name of the story that I read by Edgar Allen Poe was, " The Tell-Tale Heart". It was a story that tells the tale about a man living with one of his roommates. He talked very highly of his roommate and adored him, except for the roommate's eye; he hated it. he talks about the eye and how it reminds him of a vulture, piercing him with the glare of his eye. He goes on about how every night he opens the door of his roommate's bedroom and stares at him cautiously, putting a lantern over his eye watching him sleep. He goes on about this for many night and one night while he was watching him, he made a slight movement and the noise awakens his roommate. The room is pitch black, all windows and curtains are closed nothing can be seen, so the man decides to stay very still. The man is so still that he doesn't make the slightest move; he stands there holding the light over his roommate's eye, which is now open. Of course his roommate was in shock. the man stood still and all he could here was the beating of his roommate's heart. "Yet, for some minutes longer I refrained and stood still. However the beating grew louder and louder! I thought the heart must burst" A quote found on page three shows that the man is starting to freak out.he ends up killing his roommate and hides him under the floor panels of his roommate's floor.A neighbor calls the police because she had heard a shriek, the police arrive and the man can easily fool them so the police wouldn't find out that dreadful thing he had done. His conscious says otherwise and feeling guilty, he opens himself up to the cops, confessing to them and pulls the boards up from the floor and exposed what he had done. His guiltiness had taken over him.
Main Charatcer:
The main character in the story is what I believe could be Edgar Allen Poe. He refers to himself as a madman and talks about how he drove himself crazy.
