today in history

  • first off let me tell you that Mrs. Evers is hands down my favorite teacher!

In class today we discussed imperialism and how it changed the world

Imperialism is the explanding of the control and power of countries and at the time there were alot of power hungry countries. Imperialism is a branch of colonialism in which the controlled areas are formally declared as colonies. It is also used to refer to situatons where the mode of control is less formal; for instance where the dominant's influence or control in the subordinated areas is econmoics, not involving overt terriotorial conquest. Imperialism is aslo the attitude of superiorty and dominance over foreign people.

After our notes we played a review game for our unit 4 exam that we are taking next wednesday. It was boys verses girls and the boys beat us by two points. :)

reader response:poe

a reader response: EDGAR ALLEN POE

Summary:

The name of the story that I read by Edgar Allen Poe was, " The Tell-Tale Heart". It was a story that tells the tale about a man living with one of his roommates. He talked very highly of his roommate and adored him, except for the roommate's eye; he hated it. he talks about the eye and how it reminds him of a vulture, piercing him with the glare of his eye. He goes on about how every night he opens the door of his roommate's bedroom and stares at him cautiously, putting a lantern over his eye watching him sleep. He goes on about this for many night and one night while he was watching him, he made a slight movement and the noise awakens his roommate. The room is pitch black, all windows and curtains are closed nothing can be seen, so the man decides to stay very still. The man is so still that he doesn't make the slightest move; he stands there holding the light over his roommate's eye, which is now open. Of course his roommate was in shock. the man stood still and all he could here was the beating of his roommate's heart. "Yet, for some minutes longer I refrained and stood still. However the beating grew louder and louder! I thought the heart must burst" A quote found on page three shows that the man is starting to freak out.he ends up killing his roommate and hides him under the floor panels of his roommate's floor.A neighbor calls the police because she had heard a shriek, the police arrive and the man can easily fool them so the police wouldn't find out that dreadful thing he had done. His conscious says otherwise and feeling guilty, he opens himself up to the cops, confessing to them and pulls the boards up from the floor and exposed what he had done. His guiltiness had taken over him.
Main Charatcer:
The main character in the story is what I believe could be Edgar Allen Poe. He refers to himself as a madman and talks about how he drove himself crazy.

So being the nice fellow blogger that I am I took my verification code off so everyone can comment my post without having the trouble and annoyance and waiting for a verification code to load. It's really easy to do and I'll tell you how:
  • go to setting
  • look under comments
  • scroll to verification code
  • CLICK " no "

and presto you don't have the verification code when people comment you and it will also relieve the annoyance and anger of others.

a book everyone should read

A book that I believe everyone should read is:

Princess written by Jean P. Sasson

This is a very disturbing book. It claims to be the autobiography of a member of the Saudi royal family, and it exposes the very real human rights abuses that shape the everyday lives of women in Saudi Arabia.
The book supposedly tells of the life of Sultana (not her real name), a granddaughter of the al-Saud warlord who brought most of the Arabian peninsula under his family's control at the dawn of the 20th century. Even though she is a member of the royal family, Sultana is bound by a strict society that defines women as nothing more than vessels for sexual relief and breeders of children for the men.
Princess depicts how even royal women are beaten, executed, and enslaved by their fathers, husbands, and brothers. It tells of a Filipino woman who came to Saudi Arabia to take a job working as a housekeeper in a private home, only to learn upon arrival that her duties also included providing daily sexual release to her employer and his two sons. It's the story of a young woman who was stoned to death for bringing dishonor upon her family--she had been raped by her brother's friends, who then lied and claimed she had enticed them.

Another day in the life of me :D

you may ask yourself what the hell I'm doing up at 9 in the morning on a Saturday morning.
I could not sleep last night and have much to do for the day, Today I am going shopping with a few friends to pick out my sadies' outfit. I'd like your input if you have any suggestions let me know I would love to hear them. All I have for an idea so far is wearing matching Patriots football jersey.
Actually I think that would be pretty cute. :] Also this weekend brings a big load of studying time, anyone that has Mrs. Evers for AP should feel my pain. I will be spending most of my time doing note cards and a four page study guide. Also doing the weekend chores blah.........no one wants to do that, but I would love to hear about your weekend!
